Traditional project delivery separates disciplines: architect designs the building, then hands off to interior designer, who eventually coordinates with landscape architect.
This seems simple but requires coordinating structural floor levels, waterproofing membranes, and door sill details early in the design process.
One technique we use frequently: continuing the same flooring material from interior through to exterior terrace or garden path. This requires careful detailing (drainage, expansion joints, weatherproofing) but creates powerful spatial continuity.
We eliminate raised thresholds wherever possible. Floor levels should align precisely between interior and terrace — anything else creates a psychological barrier that limits how people use outdoor space.
